Love you all, praying for you.
One of my favorite football players from around 2015-2020 is Wes Welker. With no disrespect to him at all – at first glance he’s just not what you’d expect to be dominant player. He’s not impressive of size, or stature, or speed. The only thing impressive about him physically is his beard… now that’s pretty impressive. But He’s not the greatest athlete… He works hard but lots of people do. What makes him so good? His precision – and his relationship with his quarterback. (Yes, Tom Brady throwing to you doesn’t hurt – I get it) but with Wes Welker his routes are precise. He is a great route runner! The quarterback knows exactly where he is going to be and can put the ball there – before he arrives knowing that he will be there to take it and run with it. It’s not like Gronk, or Randy Moss – not saying they didn’t run good routes – but those guys were awesome. Just throw the ball up higher than everyone else – and they will jump up fifty feet in the air and come down with it - no human is up that high. But with Wes Welker – a guy if you saw him on the street – you would never think – “that looks like a Super Bowl game changer.” I kinda like guys like that – it just gives the rest of us a little hope. Now a sportscaster – Randy Moss has clips of defensive backs getting torched on great plays. “You just got Mossed!” Side note - that’s’ a little uncomfortable for me – I never was a trash talker. I realize it’s a commonly accepted practice – some even feel it’s a necessary ingredient for success – I just go back the that success book written centuries before American Football was even invented. “Let another praise you, not your own mouth, someone else and not your own lips.” God says He opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. I’ll take that any day. So what if you aren’t a Gronk or a Moss. What if you’re more like a Welker in life stature. What’s the best policy or strategy for you? Run great routes. A great route in life - is simply obedience, strict attention to detail, precision. Doing what God told you to do, when He told you to do it – in the joy and energy that He gives! You can work on your athleticism – you might accomplish minor gains with much work – but the cap is short. Skill however, the cap is much higher. Would you rather be skilled or athletic? I’d rather be both – but it is what it is, so developing skill has the greatest upside. When it comes to true success in life – the skill you need most is obedience. More specifically – precision in obedience, exactness... like it was drawn up. Exactly what God told you – no deviations – or the ball will get there before you arrive. God spoke to me recently about precision on my Daily Call. He said – don’t share your answers without the specific question. When sharing PiVAT for today with my Daily Call Partner – sometimes for the sake of time – I was tempted to shorten the wording of these God-given questions of PiVAT. I guess that’s kind like skipping the route and just going straight to the location of the ball… skipping the fakes, the footwork which gets the defender off balance so I can arrive at the delivery point of the ball with a step on my defender – not with him draped over me. God reminded me when sharing PiVAT on my Daily Call – Be precise with the PiVAT Question – it means something. Before you share your PiVAT answers – Share the Specific Question first. That first Question of PiVAT – What Do You Need Most From God Today? If I shorten it to just say “my prayer for today” – or “my vision for today.” I know we know what it means – but those words actually mean something different – the importance is lost in the translation. It’s really not my prayer for today or my vision for today – It’s His Prayer for me – What do you need most from God today? – I have to ask Him – I don’t really know – I’ve got an opinion… but the whole point is getting His opinion and going with that… not mine. Rather than "my vision for today" - stating the real PiVAT Question before my answer – What is the Number 1 Thing God is telling you to do today? and for Accountability – “When is He telling You To Do It? - the specific time?" God just reminded me on Daily Calls - stating the question before the answer He gave me – is really helping me work on my precision. When it comes to walking with God – or running with Him – I want to be a good route runner. It’s funny we want to hear from God the earth-shattering, mountain moving revelations that make us feel like we really heard from Him today. But sometimes He just tells us simple reminders – those seemingly insignificant details – that can make all the difference. Praying that you are overcoming in your Daily Call – Praying that every time you do PiVAT before dinner you aren’t just filling in the answers – but asking God for His! And praying for you - that in every Daily Call – you take the couple extra seconds to state the specially worded question – that reinforces His Ways which are so different and so much higher than ours. Praying that not just in PiVAT before dinner, and Daily Calls – but in everything He reveals for you to do - that you will be so precise – that you will run great routes when it comes to obeying Him. That’s where the joy is! So you can run in all the Good He has for you! Love you all, dad
