Love you all, praying for you.
... that you will open the gift of Sundays. These are always special days – not like other days, not business as usual. They are a gift from God, the day we consider the Sabbath. A day of rest and refreshing. Exodus 20:9-10 - Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore God blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. The principles of the Old Testament continue into the New Testament – just like tithing Jesus confirmed them, but He clarified the freedom that He is and has– when the Pharisees were constantly accusing him of breaking the Sabbath. He called them out on their hypocrisy - in Luke 14:5. What they banned from others, they did themselves. He said when your donkey falls in ditch you carry him out, thereby breaking your own rules. Then Jesus said this, Mark 2:27 - ... the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. It’s a gift from God – a change of pace, a day like no other – not business as usual. It’s a day to be refreshed. That word Sabbath - <shab-bawth’> literally means intermission, from shabbath – to repose, desist from exertion; cause to cease, celebrate, to leave, to put away. Repose means to lay at rest (after the battle) but also to rest as the mind, in confidence or trust, to repose confidence or trust in a person's veracity. A quiet rest of mind, fully confident in Him! Jehovah Jireh - your provider. I just love the modern day example of Chick Fil A - soon the 3rd largest fast food chain on the planet - who remains closed on Sundays. The gift of Sundays are a day unto the LORD, but Jesus said, they were made for us, for a break, for a refreshing! Sunday’s are a day for Praise – Praying that your praise is glorious today. Every time you think of Him – Praise comes out! - It has to! Put words to it. Not just in church – but in the car, getting ready for church, on the way, coming home. Praise Him – He’s so worth it! It’s a day of worship – to bow down in His presence, to quiet yourself before Him. It’s a day to bless others (listen, hear, encourage, admonish, and exhort in the LORD. To serve others – you have time! You don’t have to go to your regular work today. This is a day of intermission – like half-time of the game. Where you can recollect and reconsider. The gift of Sundays are to Remember – all the blessings He has poured out on you. To recount all the testimony of His faithfulness this week. It’s a day to Soak in His Word – Maybe get away with Him, just the two of you - some extra PRISM time. Read a book of the Gospels, or Acts, or one of Paul’s letters to the Church. To get the refreshing, and the renewal that He has for you – renewed vision – His locker room speech for you at half-time that will launch you into the coming week. Sunday’s are a day to Seek – To lay your calendar before Him – To let Him Speak and Direct your PiVAT Weekly for the coming week. So you hear His plans for you – for your good, for your blessing - as He shows you things to come. He wants to make His Name great in you this week. And Sunday’s are a day to Love. Love for God is to obey? What does He have for you today? It will be a change of pace, but an opportunity to love others as well – to prefer and serve them. Praying that Sunday’s will be a highlight of your week. Where you remember your testimony of His faithfulness. Praying that you will seek Him for His plans for you this coming week. So that you will be renewed and refreshed – that His praise will be on your lips, that you will be open to His leading to serve others, that you will soak in His Word – and glory in His Name! Love you all, dad
